Nutritional guidance
I won a book at the library entitled the 17 - Day Green Tea Diet. It is jam - packed with good information whether you want to lose weight or not.
Here are some facts: Vitaminwater sounds good and healthy until you read the label. 31 grams of sugar- the equivalent of 13 Jolly Ranchers. Two thirds of Starbucks customers opt for blended coffee drinks - the average caloric intake is 239 calories. Best to make your own tea as many of the leading sellers of green tea contain over 25 grams of sugars and low on the claimed antioxidants. SoBe tea - very popular at small stores - contains 240 calories and 61 grams of sugar. Green Tea does deactivate fat-storage genes. It boosts the metabolism. It causes fat cells to shrink. Green tea protects our bodies from toxins and boost the immune system. Convinced to give it a try - the book is accurate and can help you slim your body. It also has information on herbs for sleeping better. But it does not just say try this chamomile tea but explains the how and the why. It's from the editors of Eat This, Not That!

This article was reproduced from https://www.drdavidwilliams.com/hyaluronic-acid-and-lubricin A great deal of research has been done on hyaluronic acid and its use in the treatment of arthritis. In fact, it is often injected into knee joints as a temporary treatment for osteoarthritis. Oral hyaluronic acid supplements are generally made from rooster combs, and a few have been shown to help in the treatment of arthritic joints—though they are quite expensive. These are the same compounds that can be found in bovine (cattle) and properly processed shark cartilage, either of which can help with the repair and protection of various joints throughout the body. Inexpensive Sources of Hyaluronic Acid Bone Broth The "poor man's" joint supplement (and probably one of the most beneficial) is bone broth. Although obesity and a lack of exercise are obviously major contributing factors to the widespread osteoarthritis problems we see today, I feel a large part of the problem is also the fact that bone broths are no longer a part of our diet. Preparing broths from the carcasses and joints of cattle, chickens, and fish, and incorporating them into your diet each day, can have a tremendous beneficial effect on your overall health. Much of the reason stems from the increased intake of hyaluronic acid—along with various minerals, proteins, and other compounds necessary for proper joint health. You can add vegetables or meat back into the broth for hearty soups or stews, and substitute the broth for chicken or beef stock in many recipes. Bone Broths are extremely easy to make! Eggs Another source of hyaluronic acid is eggs. The parts that you eat—the white and the yolk—are well-known sources of high-quality protein. But the membrane that separates the white from the shell is also composed mostly of protein, plus hyaluronic acid, glucosamine, and chondroitin. When you make your joint-boosting broths, you can throw in any leftover eggshells from breakfast. Just strain them out with the bones after the broth has cooked. If you're not big on eating eggs (though I highly recommend that you do), or making soup puts too much heat in your kitchen during the summertime, you can look for supplements with eggshell membrane. I am mentioning this supplement because I myself have had some relief by taking it and other students of mine have experienced great relief;so much so that they are back to knitting again! KF Which Curcumin Supplement Has The Best Absorption?
I get asked a lot about which supplement to buy and why. I am writing based on this article (http://www.superfoodly.com/best-turmeric-curcumin-supplement/) - read for full in depth research. Here is the summation: So who’s the winner? For curcumin bioavailability Theracurmin and Longvida are the clear winners. For curcumin plus other nutrient bioavailability the old school BioPerine is still a good choice. It has the most versatility of use, since it doesn’t contain curcumin and you can choose the dose yourself. This can be useful, considering that research has pointed to a difference in absorption ability based on dosage amount. Those who care to follow the most current research can change the amount of curcumin they consume based on the latest findings. Plus, it’s fairly cheap versus the phospholipid supplements. With a cheaper price per pill, for the same price you can take more dosages throughout the day, which may help compensate for BioPerine’s inferior absorption. That said, remember the caveats… Unfortunately, the clinical trials conducted by the curcumin supplement companies have several limitations that make answering our question difficult. First off, none are brave enough to compare their product directly with a competitor’s formula on an apples-to-apples. All use standard curcumin as their control group. Those who do animal trials are unable to say much about absorption in humans, because of the vast differences between human and rat biology. Also, the size of the dose seems to influence the supplement’s effectiveness, as is the case with basic piperine and Longvida. That said, these studies do paint a picture of how well the different ingredients aid curcumin absorption, so we can get a general idea about which product is the best choice. You Asked: Should I Take Turmeric Supplements? http://time.com/3984504/turmeric-supplements-curcumin/ Here are four simple steps that everyone should follow to obtain youthful skin: 1. Apply sunscreen every morning. The sun’s ultraviolet rays damage and age our skin more than any other external factor. Even on cloudy days, up to 80 percent of the sun’s UV radiation penetrates the clouds. For this reason, applying facial sunscreen every morning is a must. I recommend a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, which blocks 97 percent of the sun’s damaging rays. This is also the recommendation of the American Academy of Dermatology. 2. Apply an antioxidant serum every morning.Antioxidants neutralize free radicals, which are unstable molecules that can damage the collagen and elastin in our skin. Free radicals are created by normal body processes but can also attack our skin via pollution, UV radiation, and even eating processed foods. Applying an antioxidant serum every morning is a key step in fighting off free radicals. The most popular antioxidant is vitamin C. You can find vitamin C serums in many drugstores and at department store cosmetics counters. Keep in mind, though, that vitamin C is very unstable, and exposure to light can oxidize it and render it practically useless. So make sure that your vitamin C serum is in a dark tube or bottle, and if it’s brown, throw it away. That means that it has oxidized. 3. Exfoliate your skin two to three times per week. When we’re young our skin turns over every six to eight weeks. This rapid turnover of skin cells causes our skin to look vibrant, smooth, and wrinkle-free. As we get older, this process slows down. The old, dead skin cells clump and accumulate on the surface, causing our skin to look drier, feel rougher, and have more wrinkles. Exfoliating our skin removes this upper layer of dead skin cells, causing our skin to look more vibrant, often immediately. In addition, exfoliating sends a chemical signal to the deeper layer of skin cells to turn over more quickly, getting our skin closer to that six- to eight-week turnover process that we desire. You don’t need to exfoliate every day; two to three times per week will do. If you have sensitive skin, just once a week is sufficient. There are many ways to exfoliate the skin, but the easiest way is to buy a gritty exfoliating scrub at the drugstore or make one at home using baking soda. Here is a recipe for one: DIY Baking Soda Exfoliating Body Scrub Ingredients
Stir all of the ingredients together in a bowl. Rinse your face with warm water, put the exfoliating scrub on a washcloth, and gently clean your skin with it. Rinse off with warm water. 4. Apply an anti-aging cream at night. This is the key step to reversing the aging of our skin. Like the rest of our body, our skin rejuvenates itself at night. This is the time when anti-aging creams can have an uninterrupted six to eight hours to do their thing. I recommend Skin Drink Extreme Regeneration Hydrating Night Complex Skin care can be confusing, but it doesn’t have to be. If you follow these four simple steps, you can’t go wrong. Within a couple weeks your skin will look more healthy, vibrant, and youthful. Most of this article rewritten from a MindBodyGreen article by Dr. Youn Love them or not, it’s hard to escape the hectic planning, going, and doing that comes with the holidays. Sure, it is a joyous time of year when friends and family celebrate together, but with that may come stress, anxiety, fatigue, and a weakened immune system. This year, consider creating a little “holiday prep kit” so you have a few essentials on hand to prepare your mind and body so you can take whatever the season throws at you! Stressed Out?Adaptogenic herbs like ginseng, ashwaghanda, and rhodiola improve the body’s ability to cope with stress and help to maintain a state of balance in the body. They also have the unique ability to calm while also boosting energy, helping you make it through those long hours of gift shopping or baking marathons. Bonus: many adaptogens also provide immune support. Look for individual adaptogens or try a combination. Planning large meals for a crowd, navigating the airport at the height of holiday travel, or spending hours upon hours with family—any of these could send your stress meter off the charts, and did you know that high levels of stress can shrink your brain?! If you think you’re going to experience higher levels of stress this season, start taking phosphatidylserine (PS), a phospholipid that protects the brain from the negative effects of stress. Is just the thought of holiday crowds anxiety-inducing? If you’re looking for immediate calm, something to take the edge off, try GABA, an amino acid that increases relaxing alpha waves in the brain. It also improves concentration and focus. Keep chewables on hand for quick relief. Feeling Sick?Nobody wants to get sick during the holidays, but sometimes the extra stress and exposure to more germs makes it inevitable. There are certain supplements that are more effective at keeping you well when taken long term, such as vitamin D, NAC, and probiotics (L. rhamnosus and B. animalis have been found to be particularly helpful). If you’re not already, start taking them now and continue through the cold and flu season to best support healthy immunity. Others, like elderberry, zinc, and echinacea can shorten the duration of a cold or flu if you’ve already caught a bug. The key is to start taking them at the very first signs of illness. Sniff Your Troubles Away The smell receptors in our noses directly communicate with areas of the brain associated with emotions and memories—this is why a smell can so strongly trigger a specific memory. When you breathe in essential oils, it is believed that they stimulate these parts of the brain, influencing emotional health and wellbeing. Try making a personalized blend to suit your needs: Simply add several drops each of three or four oils in a small mister bottle with distilled water. Shake and spray. Or use a diffuser to infuse a room with the scent.
